Hi!
I’m Melinda Bernsdorf and I love making stuff. My fascination with textiles starts young. I come from a long line of crafty ladies. I had two extremely talented grandmothers who believed in the gift of handmade goods. My dolls and barbies had custom wardrobes and knit/crochet-wear. My mother made halloween costumes on her sewing machine. I learned to sew in front of my Nana’s Singer. I wore a dress we made together to my high school prom, following in the footsteps of my mother, who made every formal dress she wore to the high school dances she attended with my dad. I picked up crochet hooks with my grandmother, and later knitting needles with my mother. You could say that fiber runs in the blood, but I’d rather think it resides in my soul.
I make custom, one-of-a-kind textile designs with the intent that they will be well loved and well used. I am thrilled when people share stories about my pieces being used in the daily lives of their family. My heart swells when I see one of my quilts hanging over the living room chair in someone’s house. In my mind, textiles should be touched, slept on, made into forts and played with. They should become part of your home instead of hanging on a wall or sitting on a shelf.
